I'm commenting here for the first time, having just recently discovered your wonderful blog. Oh yes, I'm a Jane Austen fan! As much as I loved Joe Wright's adaptation of 'Pride & Prejudice', I think 'Sense & Sensibility' will always be my favourite, and the reason is mainly Rickman as Colonel Brandon and Emma Thompson's performance and screenplay. I cannot even count the times I have let this one run in the player. It was the first thing I watched after hearing about Rickman's death.Lisa Stefanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06987117169120981244noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8502245000248725118.post-62290265640276620442016-03-10T23:03:40.063-08:002016-03-10T23:03:40.063-08:00This comment has been removed by the author.Luluhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03515645435093240674noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8502245000248725118.post-89229129664233882272016-03-10T21:20:18.147-08:002016-03-10T21:20:18.147-08:00The moment when Marianne thanks Col. O'Connor was showing Rickman the Irish countryside to help prepare him for his role as Eamon De Valera in the film Michael Connor. Me (the Yank) arrived with traveling harp. We had just flown from JFK to Shannon and driven down to Kerry check in to the B&B where we had stayed many times. The inn keeper, a friend, said, "Guess who is here... why don't you unpack your harp and play them a tune." So, the Yank unpacked her harp and played Minstrel Boy, The Coulin, and more to the famous Irish director and famous actor. It was magical. What a wonderful way to celebrate Alan Rickman (I was so sad when I read about his death). I'll never forget Kate Winslet's wonderful portrayal of Marianne, and Emma Thompson was so perfect too. It is such a beautiful film as well. Oh yes, I'm definitely watching it again asap!! I was especially thrilled when I found my near 13-year-old daughter reading Sense and Sensibility of her own volition. I've always thought Alan Rickman played Colonel Brandon in such a heart-rendingly beautiful way.
