I have a gardening friend who walked the Lake District some years ago. Sigh. I must be content with "The Home of Beatrix Potter" by Susan Denyer, which you might enjoy. It contains many beautiful paintings and illustration as well as photographs of Miss Potter, her home, the property and is full of history. I did not know Penelope Wilton played Beatrix Potter and would love to see that sometime. Can we hope that Masterpiece will re-air it, or make it available for purchase? I have never seen the Lake District and would love to. I haven't read Linda Lear's biography and will now try to find it based on your recommendation. I will be visiting the Lake District at the end of June this year and am now tempted to visit Hill Top just to see the garden in flower. I loved Potter's books growing up (and still do) but I am not usually interesting in going to author's homes. This time I might have to make an exception!Claire (The Captive Reader)https://www.blogger.com/profile/07430380065718826213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8502245000248725118.post-18867025545204751582013-01-21T15:25:12.472-08:002013-01-21T15:25:12.472-08:00Beatrix Potter has been a favorite of mine for man...Beatrix Potter has been a favorite of mine for many years. We have a beautifully illustrated book that I read and reread to my children so many evenings before bedtime. Such wonderful stories and beautiful artwork. I have tried and tried to find a DVD of the series, but the best I could do is a burry copy on You Tube and saved it to my favorites anyway. Loved reading her books over and over to my children so I could see the paintings over and over.
Thanks for striking a chord with me yet again.
bbilliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02234552449023097251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8502245000248725118.post-12525084328866879242013-01-21T14:11:11.949-08:002013-01-21T14:11:11.949-08:00Penelope Wilton is so much more my idea of Beatrix...Penelope Wilton is so much more my idea of Beatrix Potter than Renee Zellwegger. maryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13955194101659665925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8502245000248725118.post-18223633860187054032013-01-21T12:38:03.723-08:002013-01-21T12:38:03.723-08:00How neat that the collection is online for those o...How neat that the collection is online for those of us who can't get to New York before the end of the exhibit. I had most of Beatrix Potter's books growing up and they were some of my absolute favorites. We were fortunate to be in London for her centennial celebration. We enjoyed many of the displays and collectibles. Now if only I had a trip to New York planned. Thank you for a delightful and informative post. BonnieBonniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06285041048746416249noreply@blogger.com
