Hello October

"Delicious autumn!  My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth searching for successive autumns."
--  George Eliot

Autumn is always filled with excellent new films, television and theater.  So much is coming up and there is an excitement in the air.  Here are a few to look forward to:

"Anna Karenina" directed by Joe Wright and starring Keira Knightley and Jude Law

"Call The Midwife" is a popular British television series beginning in October.  Set in postwar London, it follows a group of midwives and nuns as they try to bring obstetric and health care to East End Londoners.  I watched the first one last night and loved it!

  1. It's a chilly day here and fall is definitely in the air.

Cocooning and watching a great film or a well crafted series like Downton Abbey is exactly how I like to spend my fall evenings.
Anna Karenina is one of my favourite reads and I am looking forward to seeing it on the big screen.

    Cheers to a delicious autumn!

  2. The morning and evening chill of fall is certainly in the air here but without the rain. The warm colors are just beginning to appear. I'm anxious to settle in with indoor activities like favorite movies and the new TV season. Happy October!

  5. Thank you for quoting my favorite George Eliot. All of the productions you mentioned are of interest to me. I was disappointed to see the "Upstairs Downstairs" PBS aired last night was a rerun. I would love to see a new series of that.

  9. I'm so excited to hear about season two of The Hour. I think a new season of Upstairs, Downstairs will be on PBS in a couple of weeks as well, following Call the Midwife.

  10. You're right - so much coming!! I'm dying to see Anna Karenina and some of the others weren't even on my radar - will have to check them out. But I can't imagine any other version of Wuthering Heights comparing to the haunting Olivier/Leigh one!! I well up just hearing the music!

  11. I also enjoy British films and TV series. Will definitely watch The Hour -loved Dominic West in The Wire. Saw the first of Call the Midwife series Sunday and now will not miss it - not a Downton Abbey, but good. It aired just before Upstairs Downstairs. Also am looking forward to the new series with Benedict Cumbermatch. A rich season indeed.

  13. Can't wait for Anna Karenina to come out and of course for Downton Abbey to start. I don't know anything about the other series, but thanks for putting them on my radar. It seems I'm going to have to learn how to use this new TV we have with 3 remote controls! Horrible. It seems Fall has finally started to come to Los Angeles?
